What type
of church is Thompson Springs?
Thompson Springs Baptist Church is an autonomous
Baptist Church that cooperates with the Bradley
Baptist Association, TN Baptist Convention, and the
Southern Baptist Convention for the purposes of
Missions and Evangelism. Our great desire is for
people to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their
personal Savior, and we seek to honor Him with our
worship. TSBC is a place where people become friends
and friends become family. We are a loving church,
but still take a stand against sin.
Why not just be an independent church?
We are an independent church! We voluntarily
affiliate ourselves for the purpose of accomplishing
the Great Commission. There is no denominational
control or hierarchy in the Southern Baptist
Convention, as there is in most other denominations.
Each church is self-governed and determines its own
affairs.
For example: - Every SBC church chooses its own
pastor.
- Every SBC church owns its
own buildings and assets.
- Every SBC church
determines its own programs.
What are the advantages of cooperating
with other churches?
1) We are able to identify ourselves with other
Christians around the world who are known for their
commitment to the Bible.
2) We are able to participate in the largest
missionary organization in the world. Through the
SBC's "Cooperative Program," we help support over
10,000 career missionaries in 125 countries.
3) We are able to be a part of a tremendous
mobilization of church members around the country.
About 100,000 Southern Baptists each year
participate in short-term mission and disaster
relief projects, at home and abroad.
4) We are able to be a part of training, through six
seminaries, about 12,000 pastors and missionaries
each year who are called to vocational ministry.
What
should I expect when I walk into Thompson Springs?
When you
first enter TSBC, expect a warm welcome! During the
service, first time visitors will be given a visitor’s card. Simply
fill out the card and place it in the offering plate
during the offering. We do not make our visitors
stand up and introduce themselves or do anything to
embarrass them. We want you to feel welcome at TSBC.
What type
of singing is done at Thompson Springs?
We sing
both old and new songs at TSBC. We use the church
choir, the congregation, and special music during
our services. The special music may include a solo,
duet, group, or an instrumental piece. We usually
sing out of the hymnal for our congregation songs.
We do not use rock, rap, or heavy metal band music
in any part of our ministry.
What type
of preaching is done at Thompson Springs?
We are a
Bible-believing, Bible-preaching
church. We make no apology for strong
preaching, straight teaching, sound doctrine, and a
strict devotion to Jesus Christ and His Word. The
preaching at TSBC declares heaven sweet, hell hot,
sin dirty, and Jesus as the only way of salvation!
